Robinson, Peter - 'The Price of Love'
Hardback: 352 pages (Aug. 2009) Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton ISBN: 0340919515

THE PRICE OF LOVE is a collection of short stories, most of which have appeared elsewhere. There are three featuring Robinson's series regular, DCI Alan Banks. The best one of these is the final one which is also the longest - Like a Virgin - which is excellent. The other two are also good. There are eight other stories, the best of which are in my opinion - The Price of Love, The Ferryman's Beautiful Daughter and Walking the Dog. The author, who has been based in Canada since 1985, has set some of the stories in his adopted country.

I've always thought that short crime stories don't quite work as the procedures, evidence gathering etc take time to build and lends themselves more to a complete book. However this collection is good and most of the stories work well.

My only criticism isn't with the author, but the publisher, as there are several glaring typographical errors which should have been avoided.
